sterling 10.25 tone ring

So I have a question and I hope someone can chime in, I have a 1994 f250 7.3 idi and well when unfortunately I blew the pinion on 10.25 and the pinion blew out the rear cover and blew the tone ring off the carrier, now can I pull the carrier off and pound on a new tone ring onto the old carrier or would the carrier be damaged from the tone ring getting blown off, I have bein having speedo issues as well and figured their was something wrong with the tone ring. The pinion is not loose I checked as it can be common on theses differentials.

the tone ring is a light interference fit and you will be able to tap it on with a hammer. If it's loose the ring is junk or the carrier is wore. Make sure the ring is on evenly, check it with the alignment of the speed sensor.

Is that tone ring for the speedo or for the ABS?
