'78 Grummans / Ford Step Van

Hi Guys,

I know this probably borderline not the right forum but maybe you could help or point me in the right direction.

I recently purchased a 1978 Grummans Step VAN. It's got a Ford Engine which appears to be 4.9L. The clutch pump / secondary pump have major leaks and need to be replaced, they are rusted out and appear to be the originals.

I am having an insanely hard time finding anything to help me locate them online for sale. I just want an equivalent or something that will work but no luck.

The VIN for the truck is: P60GVDG9243
I have found some details here: vinwiz.com VIN Decoder

They don't seem to match what I have though since they claim a V8 engine unless a swap occured at some point.

On the actual clutch pump there is a series of numbers that reads: D7H1 1-57004 DA 49 - or I think, it's hard to read at this point.

Does anybody have any clues on where I might begin this journey?

Thanks

You probably won't get much response here because Ford never put a hydraulic clutch in the 73-79 pickups, I think they started in 84.

It looks like a Ford part number, but who knows. I would try comparing with a clutch master cylinder for an 84 F250, check RockAuto for that application and they show several pictures. Otherwise maybe someone wiser than me will jump on and solve your problems.

For the engine from what I can find in this shop manual here http://www.forelpublishing.com/demo/demo20078.pdf the "G" engine code being a v8 is for pickups, but the P600 series (P60) is a 300-1V H.D.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah thats my dilema! I was also surprised to find a hydraulic clutch line. I think they did an engine and tranny swap at some point.. My main issue I am outside the USA so the mechanics here have 0 knowledge of older ford vehicles, I can get work done but it's limited. Back in the USA in VA I wouldn't even spend 20 minutes finding someone who could take this truck apart but where I am thats harder.

On the engine block I can see it says Powered by Ford, it has a yellow stick with this info, not sure if it helps at all:

Engine Family: 4.9'Q'EGR/AIR
Engine Displacement: 4.9L (300CID)
Spark Plug: BSF31-4 GAP .042 - .046

If you take some pictures it would be easier to help since there doesn't appear to be much to go on .. A hydraulic slave cylinder should be easy to rebuild or replace since they really only have a few perimeters .. The mounting points and the dimensions/displacement of the cylinder .. A hone a parts kit and your in business .. Slave hydraulics has been around a long time and is certainly not ford specific or a technology only used in older vehicles .. If your living somewhere where there are no mechanics who can rebuild or find a suitable replacement for a hydraulic cylinder then your beyond the reaches of civilization Take it out and send it to someone as a last resort .. Post some pics !!!
