I have used one in my 88 5.0 Mustang LX since 9000 miles. It has 156000 on it now. I picked up 1/10th of a sec in the 1/8 mile by changing it. I clean it once a year and have never had any problems from it. I put one in my 2001 F150 about a month ago. I gained 1 mpg and a little better throttle response. Plus, it cost more up front, but you'll never have to buy another one again!!!!

NO!! I spray it with the K&N cleaner( just like 409) then wash it out with low pressure water(garden hose with no end on it). Then let it dry and add just enough K&N filter oil to turn it pink again. The reinstall it. Don't use compressed air, it could damage the filter, the filter medie is alot softer than the paper in standard filters.

I put one on my 99 4.2 last week. I actually lost almost 3 miles to the gallon on the first tankful. I will be testing it this week on a trip to see if it improves. I don't know if the computer is not set right for it, or if it just had too much oil on it from the factory. Will let you know.

What happens quite often is that the truck's PCM has to relearn because of the increased airflow. It can take a few days or longer for that to happen. You can speed up the process by disconnecting a battery terminal for a while so the PCM's learned tables clear and then it doesnt take so long to relearn.

Thanks racerguy....that is sort of what I suspected. I have just returned from a trip that put about a thousand miles on it with the new air filter. I would have liked to check the mileage, but I am having problems with my electronic odometer display.
This is another common problem with this model truck. Need to fix it first so that I can check the mileage on the filter now.

took about 2 weeks after I changed to the K&N to see a slight difference on my 98 F150 S'Cab 4x4 5.4 auto. Tonnau helped about 1 mpg, but like stated, a lot lighter in the wallet, could have bought some better oct gas ! and got the same increase.

Clyde,
Thanks for the info. Every little bit helps. I am now looking at putting a freeflow exhaust for my next experiment. I want to give it enough time to validate if there is any improvement or not. At least this way I will know for sure if they are doing any good.
