Stage II, finishing my project F-150

Hi all,
I've made a post or two here and there about my cab swap, but it's more than that.

We bought this former Government of Sask Work truck for 400 bucks. The whole intention was to restore her.

It took this many cases of beer to rebuild the engine.....

Don't remember how much it cost to take the engine from this ......

To this.......

It was probably about the same cost as the beer ......or thereabouts

broke in the motor and put a few miles on it , about 30,000 over the past 6 years or so.

But the body needs to be done. Those SK Gov employees must have drove the S%^! out of her on the gravel roads and beat the he!! out of the underside of it .

here's where we are at now

I have a replacement cab coming , maybe tomorrow or the next day.

Taking pics is not always my first priority but I will endeavour to document what I do as I go.

I will leave this post at that for now and update periodically as well interject with a bit of backstory.

Happy trucking all and anyone who drops by will have on me

Dave

LOL! That's a LOT of beer!

But, it looks like progress has been made if you've driven it that far. Good job!

What do you guys do in Canada when you swap cabs as far as the VIN? What are you supposed to do officially? You do not have to explain if you are going the unofficial route.

That cab looks repairable. I personally wouldn't go through the trouble of swapping one, but good luck!

ctubutis, LOL

Franklin2, I'm going to go ask at the AMA, In the mean time I will keep my old VIN Plate.

slashfan7964, I did a lot of thinkin (and drinkin) about it, and And I finally dicided that 400 bucks for a striped down cam delivered to my door was a pretty good deal, it was rusted pretty bad, I yanked out the driver's side seat belt by hand . other options included welding in a floor from a donor cab, or welding in new sheet metal. This is the way I went.

As of an hour ago my old box is off the frame and sitting on a trailer.
My son helped me , he did a great job and was a big help, I told him so..... then I told him to get out of the shot. muahahahahhaaaa

Don't want to fix this, I've had my heart set on a flat deck since we bought her anyway.

My dual exhaust, can't see the two cherry bombs

Can't tell but all the shocks , all brakes , shoes, pads, drums, rotors and brake lines were new last year

That's it for today.....Going to the store muahahahahahaaaa

What year model truck is that? I'm not used to seeing the later style radiator and DS2 ignition system in the same truck. Not the 6 cyl versions, anyways......

Feel free to put people in the pictures, it gives us an idea of who we're talking to.

If you're interested in what some of us look like, check out the Mug Shots thread that was started several years ago.

I didn't want him stealing the spotlight !

This truck is a 1986 F-150,
That's something I probably should have mentioned.....

Just waiting to talk to my guy tomorrow about the cab, my son says he can get us some muscle if need be.

A wee bit late but was out celebrating.....

HAPPY CANADA DAY !!!!!!!

Most of my frustration today was due to a jammed up mig welder, took a while but I got it working, 80 amp 120v.

I'm scraping my box so I figured I could cut my patch material from it.

Got just the right contour ......

Just got the one patch cut fitted and tacked

Front left fender

So for all panels I have the rust areas roughly cut out and all templates made.

With starting off with a jammed up welder I didn't get much done cause I called it a day due to the fact that looks like rain coming, but I did actually get some things accomplished .

ZZZZZZZZZ

Thanks Gary Lewis,

I pretty much had had enough by that point, was hot , hungry and tired.
Off to the dentist now, I'd much rather be run over by my truck .

Off to the alien abduction torture chamber, I'll let the world know if I survive.
