Evening All!
I dropped that old, broke engine out of my truck today. The guy said it was a 390. (The sheister that rigged the cooling system.) I thought it was a 360, but still had my hopes up. I checked the stroke today when I unloaded it. ......it's a 352! What a let down.
I guess the new truck will indeed, have a 360 now. The hunt is also on for something super cool to stick in Alice.

I haven't pulled the heads yet. The more I think about it, it's smaller than 352. The stroke was only 3" (ish) the 352 and 360 both had 3.5" stroke. What did they make smaller than a 352? Didn't they make a 332? The 352 had a bore .050" smaller than the 360. Any way you look at it, this is a worthless engine to me. I'll pull some universal parts off of it. (oil pan, sump, valve covers that are perfect, exhaust manifolds, etc.) and scrap the rest.

alan the old 332 was in some 58-59 cars and some edsels.. but are rare and hard to find.. most were junked when they wore out and replaced with a 352, 390 or a mel engine... if yours is a 332 hang onto it someone is needed it for a factory correct restore.... i'll trade ya a 390 for it....

Heh, heh. Sorry about that, RC. I'm on the look out for a 406,410, 427, 428 myself. I want something really special for Alice.
I'll have to tear down that broke engine I have and actually take good measurements to see what it really is. I just did the screwdriver in the spark plug hole trick to get an idea of stroke.
I home for an early/long lunch. This dang weather is kicking my butt. I can barely stand, let alone do anything productive. I did manage to repair, paint and install a grill in an Avalanche this morning and fix a bad vacuum line in an F-150. I took some Ranger candy and I'll wait for it to kick in before I go back and see about getting something done today.

alan.. those big bore blocks are hard to find.. sometimes if you get a 390 block sonic tested you can bore it to build a 406.. but getting a block for the .080 over you would need for a 428 from a 390 is rare... some old big mercs is the best place to look for a 428 i wonder if larry might have one.. we need something like that for our 63 1/2 galaxie tribute car... if you stumble across 2 it would be great..

thats cool larry.. but i am really looking to build a period correct FE block for the 63.. i like the 429 engines.. but the nascar rules wont let me run it in my 63 1/2... ha ha ha ha
alan.. if it is a side oiler with the cross bolted mains they are always expensive and way outta my budget.. if i could find a old 410-428 with a useable block it would be great. but i have not stumbled across one of those in my price range for years... so i guess i will just have to do a 390... which would be just as good for what i want anyway.. and i already own several of those..
