cam phasers, or something else?
afternoon guys, i've been looking to downsize to an F150, and have read some about the typical cam phasers in the 3v engines, and from what i've gathered it sounds like the symptoms are more heard than felt; i am looking at an 04, with the following descriptions:
having only owned 2v triton motors in the past, this sound more like a COP issue to me? thoughts? thanks!
..The only problem it has is the cam phasers need replacement.. I had it
checked and it was a $700 fix that I can't afford. The truck drives normal for about half an hour, and after that when you come to a stop or idle, the engine put puts. I was told it was the phasers.

..The last 3 days this has not happened at all and the check engine light went off. Maybe it fixed itself? But I will advise you what it was doing.. After driving for about 30 min the engine will put put at a stop (only at a stop not when driving). So what I would do is put it in park and gently hit the gas peddle, it solves the problem, no put put or shaking at all!!!!!!!!!

Solenoids
The 2v and 3v are different beasts in a few aspects. The 3v has it's share of "common" issues. Although the cam phasers are very common, I am leaning towards either the vct solenoids or an oil pressure issue. Cop's are often a problem with these, but the issue with the stall seems to happen after the engine reaches operating temperature. The vct solenoids are and easy fix. They will run about 175 for the pair depending on where you buy them. If you do replace the vct solenoids, I would recommend purchasing the 10 gasket for both, found only at the dealership. There are many threads on here for that project. If you are very concerned, I would take the truck to someone with a higher end computer that can show oil flow.
