My Turn At the Dealer

Just got home from a trip to the Sierras. Three times during the course of the trip the wrench light came on and zero boost. Twice on hills and once on flat land. Truck went into limp mode. 35 mph max and dead pedal after that. Turn the truck off and restart and wrench is gone and boost back to normal. Truck is stil under ESP so it went to the dealer yesterday. Checked for codes while on the trip and none were left. Driving a new 1/2 ton Dodge rental now. Part of the ESP.

Yup, 31' 5er. Last time it quit was when passing a Walmart big rig going up the grade out of Kramer Junction. Had to find a big hole in traffic fast. Dealer just called, It's another turbo. I can honestly say that my ESP's have been paying for themselves.

Dealer said they got it to stick while testing it. They are going to dis assemble and see if it can be rebuilt or needs to be replaced.

Living in town now my commute is only 5 miles of stop lights. I wonder if I should be proactive in cleaning the turbo soon...

Dealer put 3 center sections in my truck under the ESP. I have the last 1 installed here on the shelf as a spare. My issue was lack of use, but ever since I did the Powermax I haven't had any issues, I drive it about as much as I did with the OEM turbo, but I try to make a habit out of not driving it in the winter, I don't even start it anymore and its kept inside.

Glad they are getting you fixed up and sorry for the Hijack.

I was just in Yellowstone and after the grade climbing and dropping I had sticky turbo syndrome one morning. I just took it out and beat the s*%t out of it. That got her moving again. Something about the descent I think does them in. At least you got the ESP to help you out.

Were you using T/H a lot going down?

I use t/h whenever climbing or descending.

Same, I'm wondering if that plays a role in gumming up the turbos.

I personally don't think so.

That could be. If you're running up grade, high RPMs and turbo not moving for long periods of time it could do it. Not TH related.

I've heard it more then 10 times with people running grades a bunch and having stuck turbos after.

I've heard it too David. EODguyJake has a powermax on his truck and I know he doesn't drive it easy, uses fuel additives at every fill up, and pulls a boat on a regular basis. I was surprised at how much rust was in his when I pulled it to clean it because of overboost issues.
