Power Steering pump pully removal and install

Does anyone have experience with the removal of the pulley from the power steering pump and how to put the pulley on the new pump?

I have removed it with a hammer. And can tell you, that is definitely the wrong way!

You can rent a puller/installer from your local parts house. You cant do it any other way

Yes, just rent a puller from you local auto parts place.

Also don't forget to bolt the bracket on the replacement pump before you press the pulley on. I know someone who did that once.....

This is the puller you need.
To reinstall the pulley, place the pulley on the shaft then take a flat washer, nut and bolt. Screw the nut on the bolt, place the flatwasher on the bolt and screw the bolt in the end of the shaft. Tighten the nut until the pulley's outside edge is flush with the end of the shaft.

Don't try using a gear or a 2 or 3 jaw puller. They won't work and all you'll do is bend the pulley.

I used AZ loan a tool on mine. I also understand HF has a PS puller tool that works well at reasonable cost.

Or you can do what I did and spend $200.00 on a special tool to remove and replace the pulley. I'd just rent one if you don't plan on using it a lot

The 2 jaw puller works but this puller is easier to opperate due to the bearing inside. Silver part is the bearing. You can get this tool at auto zone or Orielly. If I remember right it was under $30.00.

It comes with the same shells as in this picture.
