Lets talk drive shafts
Hello guys.
I'm in a bind with drive shafts here. I currently have a 96 F250 swaped out to F350 suspension including a D60. 2 years ago when I installed it was just a DD truck. Now it my full out work truck. Landscaping 5-6 days a week. The drive shaft part comes into play as I think about plowing this year with it. At the time of installing the Dana 60. I just home brewed shortened my 250 drive shaft. I have had no problem with it. Except it not balanced right and you get a vibration. I want to get it fixed.
I had found a F350 front drive shaft. It seen it use and needs a rebuild. Local drive line shop wants $300-400. Plus $150 for yoke and seal on t case. So after thinking I got another 250 driveshaft hanging around for a fellow Fte member last year at rre. I was thinking about have the drive line shop shorten and balance it. So my question's:
Why is a F350 shaft different?
Will there be any problem running a 250 shaft. Haven't had any yet.
Money is not tight around here but being a small business owner I'm tring to get the truck back right with out the bank being broke.
Thanks
Doug

Yes the F-350 has a double cardan joint. I just rebuilt mine a couple months ago and didn't spend anywhere near what you were quoted. I bought new HD u-joints and yoke from Napa. Think I spent around $200 or a little less, can't remember exactly.
If you have a press and a helper, they aren't too bad to rebuild.

I think your correct and that's why it's the price it is. Doublecardons are expensive weather it's buying new or rebuilding.. Tho if it's rebuildable their strait forward, no brain surgery.. F250 sits lower so stock it's not prone to driveline bind.

When I did the 4x4 conversion on my '96, I used the front shaft ftrom the donor. '91 F350 chassis cab. Had the same front shaft as the F250. Maybe it wasn't original, but it works. haven't had binding issues that i'm aware of..... Did have it re-tubed as it was badly out of balance. no issues since.
