rear shock thread difference after replacement?

Replaced rear shocks today on 03 king ranch. right hand side was a pain in the butt to get off, but after finally getting it off, new bilstein shock went on fine and after tightening was able to see about 8 threads at top nut.
but after installing left one, the top nut wouldn't tighten any further, just seemed like it was spinning and there was no threads to be seen. lowered truck to see if it would compress any more to push the post up further to get more threads, but no luck, although backing it up and pulling back into garage didnt seem to make any lick of difference, shock compressed as normal and no movement at top nut. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this? is there suppose to be any different load or compression on the left?
will try to get some pics after?

normally one washer has a bigger hole in it and will slide all the way down the threaded rod... the two rubbers go on each side of the frame and set on this washer.... the top washer has a smaller hole and will only slide down the shaft half way until it hits a lip on the shaft. you should have threads sticking up past the washer so you can screw the nut down tight against the washer. The rubbers will mash down just a little and leave no clearance for things to wobble. There is no difference between the left and right in assembly.

yes, you should have several threads sticking out of the top of the nut on a normal shock rod.

just researched a bit and realized there is a hole for an allen key at the top of the post, so basically going to get a ratcheting open end wrench, and tighten while holding allen key at top! than onto the front!! wish us luck!

So much to do to our new baby! but getting there slowly!
btw has anyone ever uninstalled LPG??

Thanks! She's a beaut!
We went over and picked her up in the UK and brought her back to Ireland. She's pretty immaculate inside, the underside is a bit rusted but we are slowly replaced bit by bit.
Will have a billion more questions I'm sure! Thanks for the advice
