2014 F250 Buyer: What do I need to know?
Seriously considering buying a new F250 4x4. I sold my 05 Excursion last fall, thinking that I didn't need a truck anymore. After having one continuously for the previous 30 years, I've discovered that life without a truck isn't that easy...
I'm considering a new (assume 2014, but not sure when the 15s are coming out, and what the difference is, if any?) F250 4x4 Crew Cab, probably the Lariat package, gas engine. I don't tow that frequently, and was really pleased with the way my V10 in my Ex towed, so I'm not really interested in a diesel (I've had diesels before, so I know what I'm missing).
Truck will be an almost daily driver in Florida. Some road trips, some towing (seems like there's always something that needs towing!), lots of trips to Lowes. F150 would probably do the trick, but I've never in my life said, "dang, I have too much truck for the job." The few times I've had 1/2t trucks, I have found that I could max them out, and then some. So, it'll live most of it's life doing light lifting, but I don't ever want to find myself wondering if I've got enough truck for the job. I drove the Ex for 8 years, so I'll probably have this one for as long.
Again, haven't been paying much attention to what's new with the SDs since 2005, so I'd appreciate some informed input. What do I need to know about these trucks? What are their weak points? What are the must-haves, and why?

I have a 2012 f250 cc sb 4x4 w/3:73 and I love it. Lots of people will say get the 4:30 gears or you can't get up a curb.lot the truck has lots of power with 3:73 due to the 6spd in it. I tow 10000lbs and the truck is great. With what you plan on using it for the 3:73 will be great. The drive by wire leaves a fair bit to be desired but when you need it the truck will deliver. I never had a v10 but I would think this 6.2 will Reva bit more for you when towing. The new 6 SPD's are fantastic and have nice features for towing such as manual mode and locking out gears.

I enjoy the comfort of never being limited in what I can bring home or haul

Anyways, this is what I was getting at. lol. I friend has a 2011, I believe it is, F250 Gas. He loves it but really complains about the mpg. Of course we don't expect a green experience with the truck, but he hauls a concrete trowel, single and sometime the double, plus generator etc... all the time. Being he used to have an F150 he says there is a huge difference. I'm pretty sure his is an XLT. Aside from that he has no complaints. Very comfortable ride etc... You did have an Excursion so I'm pretty sure you are not concerned.
Good Luck!

I have 15000 on my 2013 with the 6.2 and I'm happy with it. The only issues I had was last winter I kept getting an odd howling sound for the first few minutes the engine was running. I had the dealer look at it and they said Ford told them it is form the cold air resonating through the intake. I really didn't buy that since the noise wasn't there the winter before, but when it warmed up the sound went away and hasn't came back yet.
As for mileage I have 4.30 gears and if I'm really easy on the throttle I will get around 14mpg. Normal is in the 13mpg range in the summer and around 11.5-12 in the winter.

I have a 2014 and I just love it. I went back and fourth between all brands gas and diesel. I really really really wanted the diesel, but couldn't afford the jump in price. I figured I could buy a lot of gas for the price difference.
I pull a 8,000 pound RV and my Ram 1500 hemi did not have the suspension to handle the RV. I do not regret the 6.2, It is not the 6.7 but it fits my needs.

Love the 2014 F250 D
We purchased our 2014 F250 Diesel on 26 July, and off to Sturgis we went pulling a 4500 lb toy hauler and two harleys. At 65 MPH we got 13.9 MPG at 70+ we got 12.5MPG. The truck pulls this weight at ease, was fun to drive. This is our first Diesel and we are very happy. Ours came with the 3:55 gears, but was told the 3.31 do really well also. Its an XLT with the skid plates underneith and a few other small options. The only option I super regret not getting was the back up camera. When we disconnected the trailer we were getting 19 MPG at 65MPH. drops to 17 MPG at 75MPH. Just returned from the trip and have 2500 miles on the truck. Love it... sdviking
