HELP - I'M HAVING A SENIOR MOMENT

I can't remember where my clutch and brake return springs anchor at. I've tried several places but they just don't seem right. I have a 55 F350 with a 292 with a T98 behind it.

I will have to go look later, but one of them hooks to a bracket that attaches to the front acorn bumper. I think that's the clutch.

I thought I had a picture somewhere. If you don't get word before I get home I will check mine. I have no body on mine, so it's easy to get a picture.

Here are pictures of my 55 F250. Now that I've shown you mine, you need to show yours.

Joe, thanks. I'll have to make a bracket like that, no telling where mine got off to. That's where I have my brake return spring but it just seems too loose when retracted.

It took me forever to find my bracket. I put it in a bag still attached to the acorn bumper and just chanced across it one day. That's why it's not painted yet.

If you don't have the body on, the brake return spring will be a little loose. The brake pedal hits up against a bumper on the cab. (I think)

That sounds like me. I went out and found the acorn bumper and there was the bracket all greasy. So I just finished cleaning it and put one coat of primer on. The acorn bumper is something I completely forgot about, so something else to order. LOL

My new engine. You can see I put the spring over the oil filter - I did not like that idea.

I love your truck. That script flat bed is awesome.
It looks like things are coming together nicely. What are your plans for it?

My plans? Well, my plans change almost daily. Its been 15 months that I've been working on "Big Red." My initial plans were to learn some new restoration techniques and then sell the truck and try to recoup some of the money I've put into it. I've work on her almost daily, except when I have to go do real work and I've found I REALLY miss working on her, I feel like work is interfering with working on the truck. So, I really don't know. On the one hand I need to pay back the money (because its on a credit card) but on the other I think I'll really enjoy driving the beast. For the last month I've been just working on the engine but have to switch gear and get the body work done so I can get it all in for paint; which I would like to do before snow flies. But thank you. What are your plans on your truck?

My truck was my wife's grandpa's. I'm planning on restoring it to stock. Budget and time don't exist for my project, so it's going extremely slow. I've never done anything like this before, so everything I do I have to learn about it first.

It sure has been a challenge. I'm looking forward to each new bit of work I can get done.
My build thread is in my signature.

Well, this build doesn't have the closeness of yours. My wife found it at a yard sale, told me about it so I went to have a look. Out in the front yard it didn't look too bad, well at least the driver's side. The passenger side had a lot of collision damage but the frame was straight. The guy I bought it from is a carpenter/handy man but he wasn't so handy with body work. He had taken a 2x4 and bashed that into the passenger door to try and knock out the dent, the 2x4 was still laying in the cab. He also must have become frustrated with not being able to open the hood because the auxiliary latch had been smashed in and the little spring was broken. While looking at the damage to the cab he came up to me and said that a couple of 2x4's and some ratchet straps would pull the right rear corner in nicely. I told him that the floorpans and rocker panel needed to be replaced, the outer and inner corners needed to be cut out, and then the latch side of the door jamb would need to be realigned; I was able to reduce the price he was asking from $800 to $500 but I should have gone further. However, it too has been a learning experience. That I hope to transfer to my Dad's 64 Ranchero which was my first restore 15 years ago and now I've learned more and want to do it over again.

This forum is great for when you experience "a senior moment," because someone here is going to remember for you. Love this forum!
