My '93 supercab has emblem on tailgate that says 5.0 HI PERF, but I can't see any difference from any other 5.0 engine. It runs good, but doesn't appear spectacular.

No.. the 5.0HO was never factory installed in any truck. The differences between the HO and regular truck motors isn't that great, forged vs cast pistons, a unique cam, and the HO intake which is actually one of the poorest flowing factory intakes Ford ever made but was a good match to the equally poor flowing stock heads.. which the truck motors also wear.

If you find a truck with a HO in it then a test drive should confirm or deny the claim, the HO will have more mid and upper rpm HP than a truck motor which is typically all done by 4000rpm where as the HO should pull to 5000rpm.

I'm pretty sure that the only vehicles to get the HO from the factory was the Mustang and the Explorer. I could be wrong though. They probably didn't do the GT40 intake on the F150 to save the low end torque.

No the Explorer motor isn't a HO even though it wears better heads and intake than the HO ever did.

That's not the case either because the 5.0 truck intake outflows the GT40/Explorer variants.

That explains why it winds up so well, not much off the line but pulls thru 5grand. Thanks for the info I can't see any obvious differences between it any other truck engine.
