The sheer volume of Taurus and Explorer Police Interceptors

I was shocked and awed by the number of Taurus and Explorer interceptors that I saw between Virginia and Maine last week in use by the state troopers, the small towns and cities.

Ford rolled the dice by discontinuing the aging but ever reliable CVPI and it seems to have paid off.

The department my dad works for has two of the Explorer Interceptors. He said they all like how comfortable they are.

RWD Chevy Tahoe's seem to be the vehicle of choice in my neck of the woods. But I saw a bunch of Ford vehicles last month during a trip to San Diego. Must be a state by state thing.

Haven't seen a lot of Interceptors yet, seeing quite a few Exploders. Still a lot of CVPI's, I think a lot of dept.'s stocked up before they were discontinued. Chargers have taken a bite out of the Highway Patrol fleets from what I have seen.

Don't know what I'll do when my '08 CVPI bites it and there won't be any more to choose from at public auction. Just love a fully framed RWD V8 that gets around 20mpg.

A few Chargers here, still mostly CVPI's, Expeditions and Tahoe's.

Red face

Here in Calgary, the explorers were the first of the new style to see widespread use. The Police bought several hundred of the old crown Vic's at the last minute just as insurance, so they spent most of a year working through that inventory.
They changed paint schemes too. Here is the old one:

The new cars have the "retro-look" black scheme. Apparently this is much faster for them to decal, plus to me it looks badass.

There is a mix of both running around town still, so it's kinda funny when you see them side by side.
The RCMP still mostly seem to have the crown vics.

While I'm posting too many pics, here's the new explorer paint:

Our SWAT team also has this bad-boy machine.
