Winters Sidewinder Shifter

Is there anyone here who has installed one of these shifters in a 73-79 with a bench seat? I would like to see pictures if you have any. Hoping to get ideas for installing one in my 78. Thanks.

Everything I see is it a great set up for low mount and between the buckets. But it can be made to work, just not as pretty.

Here are a few online pics for you, yes the 1st pic is a Dodge but its is a bench seat. And yes the 2nd is a Art Carr shifter, but I though the mount box design was a good idea.

I suppose you could go with a console and incorporate but since it is gonna take up pretty much all foot room for middle passenger, I think buckets might be in order.

The box idea might work. Just have to get it mounted so I can reach the tranny and transfer case shifter.

I would go with buckets but I need to be able to seat three passengers.

Then I would stick with the one on the steering column. I don't really see a reason for it. But I am sure there is a good reason for it I don't know about.

I am going from a 4 speed to an auto in this truck. I have been wanting to switch for a while now. Last summer I screwed up the 4 speed, so now I am building a C6 for it. I have wanted to compete in some local events with it but the 4 speed wasn't competitive. With the auto it will be easier to drive, but I don't want to have to worry about missing shifts or slipping it into neutral. That is why I don't want the column shifter.

I might compete once or twice a year, but the rest of the time it is used as a trail truck. I have to be able to take my wife and daughter with me, too. I can't afford a race truck and a trail truck, so I have to compromise on one to do both.

Just messing with you, I am sure that if you off set the box mount design more your way, with just enough room to get to the xfer case handle the middle passenger will still have enough leg room.

They really like to go too. Especially my daughter. She is six and loves going for rides in the truck. I should be able to make it work with the box mount design. Thanks.

I haven't done any competitions so I don't know much about shifters other than factory. But why not use some sort of long arm shifter? Looks like B&M makes one and so does lokar and I am guessing lots of others. Also from what i have seen would look alot better and give you more room for feet and stuff.
