Got the IH bellowed ceramic up pipes and Clay's 6x6 billet wheel installed and all is good except for an odd noise a couple of times. Boost pressure seems to be lower than it used to be at a given "no load condition" ( 2.5 to 5 psi ) but spools to 20+ PSI almost instantly when on it. Only issue was twice today when accelerating from a full stop I had noticed a noise that sounded like a loud clacking like lifters without sufficient oil pressure for a lack of a better description. Oil level and pressure is normal for that issue. Let of and all went normal and all normal on the way home later on.
Will waste gate fluctuating or boost leak make this happen? I did notice a slight whisteling sound when letting off the throttle but assumed it was the new wheel, but will the waste gate do this as well? The turbo was totally "reconditioned", hot tanked, bead blasted and all but don't know if the waste gate could be affected.
Exhaust leaks are loud, and they drown out much of the rest of the truck. Every time I tame the loudest part of Stinky, I find the next-loudest part. You might be hearing your injector cackle - have you done the fuel mods? Another point - try your same run in stock tune. I was able to get as high as 22 PSI with stock tune, wastegate line capped, and big air in/out.
Thanks for the reply Rich.
Well I don't think that I had an exhaust leak before the new up pipes - it was a preventetive maintenance sort of thing. Thinking back I had the same noise about a year ago and I think it threw some sort of injector code but I don't recall at this point. Never came back, but I don't know if this is the same. No CEL but I will check with AE
No codes found and last trip to town and back no hiccups with WOT ( lots of cops here). Very happy with the new wheel from Clay - saw 23 PSI peak, gets there real fast. Mostly stock stuff except per SIG.
This was in 60 E on DP
