First long distance drive...
Just wanted to share...
Took the Ex on it's first long distance run since driving it home 1700mi back in Dec of '12. On the way back from TX it ave'd 18.2 with cruise set at 75mph.
All the updates in my sig I did right before the trip. So this was really the first test.
My wife had a work conference 900mi away in Louisville so we took the Ex unladen (except for us and luggage). The trip out was generally flat - I took I90 west and I71 south into KY...with the cruise set at 75mph it ave'd 19.7 mph on the lie-o-meter (hand calc'd at 19.5...so not too far off).
The way back I decided to take I64E across KY into WV, then I79N, then I68E across MD to I81N, then I84E to I91N. It added only about 80mi, but the terrain was more hilly going through WV and west MD. I had increased my speed to cruise at 80mph and it ave'd 18.7 on the lie-o-meter.
As far as EOT/ECT goes, my EOT reached a peak of 219° pressing up the hills on the way back (still on cruise with about 22psi) but typically never went above 214° at speed on the flats while the coolant hovered between 190-194° regardless of the terrain.
Just crossed 182,000 miles on the way home.
I am VERY pleased with this motor.
If I backed off the skinny pedal I'm sure I could hit 20s.

Sorry Iaff - forgot about the phone app disabilities!
It's an 05 Ex EB edition with an 05 motor.
At 180k I deleted the EGR via blockoff plate and up-pipe replacement, replaced the oil cooler with Ford OEM and rebuilt the housing, threw in the blue spring upgrade, a coolant filter and rebuilt/cleaned the turbo. I also performed a full chemical flush of the coolant system and installed fumoto valves in the block prior to the undertaking. I also replaced the plastic CAC tube with a metal one with boots from RiffRaff as well as upgrading the stock boots on the hot side with their boots.
I also have an SCT X4 tuner that I'm currently just running the canned "Street" tune.
I also use Diesel Kleen in every tank of fuel....cause ya never know.
Next step is ditching the stock exhaust and monitoring the EGTs for towing later this year. After that I'll get a proper tune.
Misky - I have a 4WD version. For whatever reason 75 mph has always been my cruising speed! I know I could do better on the economy side by slowing down, but that extra 5 mph over a 10 hr trip is like 40 minutes saved!! And I just feel comfortable at speed
I only got pulled over once in MD on I68 78 in a 65...c'mon?!

214 EOT and 194 ECT. If that was what you were averaging, yields a 20* delta/temperature difference/subtraction thingy...whatever you want to call it. I'm running very similar numbers in my rig and I'm scratching my head as to how to get those numbers closer together.
These are fun little engines, and you'll love it even more once you add a tune or two.

vatreefarmer - I'm a member of the camp that believes once you do an egr cooler delete, the temp spread is no longer of a concern and that the values should be looked at independently and blah, blah, blah...I can go into detail if you haven't heard it already about higher EOTs and whatnot.
Anyways, it's in the range I was expecting. So that's good.

Iaff - the SCT is nice. I can definitely feel the difference once you give it over half throttle. Because I did everything kinda at once I'm assuming it contributed to the higher fuel economy, but I can't be sure. I can certify that the foot-to-brain-to-smile sensation has increased, though!
I'm toying with the idea of sending my FICM to Ed to see if it needs upgrades and to get the Atlas40 tune. I have no idea if the previous owner(s) ever did anything with it, but it wouldn't hurt to have him take a look.
