1999 Explorer air conditioning?

Picked up a Explorer and all I can get the compressor to do is kick on for about 2 sec even when the low pressure switch is jumped. kill it an restart it and it will do it again with a jumper in it or plugged into the low p s. it will run for about the same 2 sec then no more till you kill the motor an restart it. tried moving the relays from other spots same thing so they checked out ok system is low but it should still run with the LPS jumped? I haven't tried running a hot right to the compressor to see what happens there yet. but that should work no matter what.
Any other places to look into?

Thanks John

Yes but shouldn't it kick on when jumping the LPS with a wire? On my other cars it will to suck the Freon in then I hook it back up.

Yes, but it could have another lps that is controlled by the computer and that one keeps it cycling.

Disconnect the wire at the compressor, there should be a connector there and run one directly from the battery to test it. If it cycles still the magnet behind the clutch is shorting or bad.

That's the problem its not cycling. It just comes on for about 2 sec then won't come on again. Even jumped at low pressure switch

If it comes back on after restarting the vehicle it has to be somewhere in the control.

Are you sure that it was the low pressure switch? You do have two pressure switches on your system, a low and a high. Where was the one you jumpered?

Is the Explorer equipped with manual or EATC controls?

ok I ran hot an ground right to the compressor an ran fine. topped it off worked good. shut it off plugged it back in to reg plugin and did the same thing. runs for about 2 sec an that's it. checked wires at LPS an relays all worked.

Anything else that I can check? Or is their a way to run it an not have to worry about hurting anything?
John
