396 vs 901 vs 3310

got a 390 30 over with L2291F30 pistons, the cam that got put in this is a crane 902 kit. the heads are a C1AE that have had hardened seats installed, hedman long tube hedders with 2.5 back an edelbrock RPM intake. I put a 3310-10 holley on because the 600 eddy was acting like it was in need of a rebuild. through calculations I'd say I'm at about 9.8:1 but was told it was a bit above 10:1, with around a 72cc chamber an 10cc dish i may or may not be calculating it right (need to ask if it got decked). it seems a bit like i am going through to much fuel, it peaked at +/-16psi at 2 turns at +/-750rpm in gear. timing is around 10* that is if damper hadn't shifted. I feel the cam might be little small an if it was me building it i would had got cj valves installed an heads ported. should i consider jetting this carb down an getting a adjustable vac secondary

How does it run and what do the plugs look like? Black smoke?

That is probably more carb than you need. I can't find the cam at the Crane site but you say it's mild. Your CR may be mid 9s with a 72cc chamber--look at the specs for your pistons:

the plugs are a orange/brown but that may be from junk in the tank. it dose not seem to give off an smoke except when i hit the go-go petal an it lights a tire. this happens at any speed if i peg it except off ideal from a stop it will hesitate, there is power to move this chunk of iron at 700-1100rpm quickly. need to fix the gas gauge so i can keep better tabs on gas. found a bad move made out, the pass head is c8ae an driver c1ae. that could be the case for the driver header to be leaking, that an it seems to run a hair choppy. at times it seems it may be pinging on the pass side but dose not happen often an i am running 93. I may consider putting a 454 TBi + EEC-IV that be around 640 cfm an enough fuel.

cam- 343902

C8AE-H 67-72cc so that be high 9s to low 10s
Lift Intake Exhaust

.100 63 46
.200 114 88
.300 168 121
.400 187 142
.500 202 139
.600 207 142

C1AE 71-74cc so that be mid to high 9s
Lift Intake Exhaust
.100 71 61
.200 129 99
.300 182 126
.400 221 147
.500 ?? 164
.550 229 167
.600 235 167
.700 244 170
.800 250 172

will need to find another c1 or a pair of c6 heads to get that squared away, at the same time i may swap to a comp 280h. a cleaned up set of heads an cam like that should bring balance to this mismatched motor

thought it out an my conclusion is that I need to get this gas hog out the secondary's. I feel that the primary's are about right so just took the squirter down to 25 from 31, that got rid of the hesitation off idle at wot but is a hair low on power at first so may need a 28. i am waiting on a secondary metering block so i can jet that down, will start at a 65-68 from the 75 an go from there. need to find out when the secondary's are opening so I'd know if i need a stiffer spring. do so should get rid of my gallons per a mile issue i am having, i had this thing suck down 4 gallons in about a mile early this week leaving me with no fuel (a new dodge truck wanted to play so had to walk it)
