Crazy thought on FORD building a 95 chassis - again!
I had a thought about pricing of vehicals today. I work in the electronics manufacturing arena, so I know how technology advances so rapid.
So lets say Ford had a plant that used to pump out millions of F150's with the 1995 body style. The plant is ready to go, just open the doors, fill with workers and parts.
would it cost MORE to build a 95 f150 with todays money than what it takes to build the 2015?
I say yes. The idea of even the blinker stalk having a mechanical function makes me think these "hard parts" are more expensive in both labor and cost than a micro switch that tells the computer to blink the freaking lights left or right.
A 95 was made of steel, and made of more steel than what todays trucks are. Suspension was also still TIB, lost-o-metal there as well - steel again.
This thought has nothing to do with the new aluminum body, frankly I forgot about that. I see tailgates on Tahoes corroded to hell with paint literaly flying off at the car wash - I don't see any advantages in it yet.
Anyway, with COMPUTERS doing all the heavy lifting on todays cars/trucks, I bet a truck built as simple as a XLT with manual windows is MORE expensive to build with todays money.
