hello there guys I have a 97 ford f150 4.2L engine with over 300,000 miles and the engine just seized the other day and I been looking around to get info if its worth getting rebuilt or just getting a new engine or just scraping it but I also find out something bout the early f150 and wondering if that could be the issue or wat could cause it to seized but b4 it seized it got 2 codes which were p0303 and p0174 so if anyone can keep me with any info I would truly appreciate that

I personally would go with a used engine... It would be cheaper and you could get it and have it in in a couple of days. With that many miles, you don't know what kind of machining you'll be getting into. A machine shop will take forever too. As for your codes, the p0174 was likely a vacuum leak, depending on what was causing the misfire (p0303), that may or may not be related (like a dropped valve possibly?) But first thing would be to call around some junkyards

 

The vacuum leak in my 2002,4.2L@ 65k miles was between the injector manifold & intake manifold... $800 later & she purrs again. 4.2Ls are prone to hydro lock as well.

 

Did you remove the belt to rule out something seized
in the accessory drive? alternator, a/c ect
