Help me diagnose shuddering at cruising speed.
Hi friends,
I'm considering buying a 1993 F150 XLT X-Cab w/ 5.0 V8 and AT. During test driving, this truck shuddered pretty violently during cruising at 45MPH. I first noticed it when I was cruising at around 45 MPH. I noticed that I wasn't keeping up with traffic so I lightly pushed the accelerator. Then the shuddering begins. If I back off the accelerator, it will quit. If I mash the accelerator, I can move past the shuddering. But it will do this at any speed of 40 to 45 and above anytime I want to go a little faster.
Needless to say, I refused to buy the truck until he can have HIS mechanic look at it. I'm trying to get a feel for what you all think it is. Seems to be igition-related.
What do you think will fix it and how much?
Thanks in advance!

Looks like a little trip to the archives would have pointed me in the right direction.
It looks like (from the archives at least), that this truck has the common torque converter problem. I don't know much about the tranny other than it's automatic w/push button OD on the end of the lever. I'm glad I didn't buy her, although the high pressure sales tactics were wearing me out.
I forgot to mention that the truck had 89K miles
