Quiet Topic

I can't get over how quite this 6.2 thead is. Real good indication of the reliability is of this engine. Compare it to the 6.7 thread and the amount of posts. Considering these 2 engines came out the same year.

Happy happy!!!

It is pretty quiet in here when it comes to motor related items. I go to the 6.7 forum if I need anything other than motor information, seems to be the dumping ground for most >'11 non-diesel related topics (obviously the 6.7 is discussed there as well).

Yeah I agree. The 6.2 is a great engine. I've only had one minor problem that was covered under warranty when it was new.

Sorry. But I've had mine since September, 2013. Its fine but if someone hits me tomorrow and the truck is totalled, I'll get one identical to what I have but with the 6.7.

Agree that for the most part it's quiet around here regarding major technical problems. I'm approaching 1 year with my 6.2 and other than regular oil changes all has been good, except the one "cel" issue which was a bad O2 sensor.

I'm still torn on the 6.2 vs 6.7. At times I wish I had the 6.7 for its raw torque and power but when I crunch the numbers I can't justify it. I've put 18,500 miles on my truck and never reset the "A" trip meter and it shows 12.1 mpg or roughly 1,530 gallons at an avg of $3.50 (guessing) which equals $5,351 in gas. I choose to change oil every 5k miles so that's 3.7 oil changes @ $30 for a total cost of $5,462.

Assuming I had the same truck with the 6.7 and same 18,500 miles and an estimated 16 mpg avg. that would equal 1,156 gallons of diesel @ $3.90 (guessing) or $4,510. I would still choose to change oil at 5k intervals so 3.7 oil changes @ $125 equals $462 for a total cost of $4,972. I would have saved $490 with the diesel in cost of operation. $7000 option to get the same truck with the 6.7 it would take 14 years to pay for itself.

For my needs the 6.2 serves me well. Those 18k miles consist of mostly a mix of hwy and city driving and 3k miles pulling a medium sized gooseneck aluminum horse trailer. If I pulled the trailer more that's when I'd rather have the 6.7.

Tack on fuel filters and def. I would also add cetane booster as well.

It can get a little quiet around here but the 6.2 doesn't at least so far have any plug, exhaust stud or other problems that the Modular motors had but time will tell. From my experience so far I don't think the 6.2 will have many problems over the long haul.

Guess I could've/should've made a thread about my CEL issue but honestly didn't think much about it. I bought my truck used with 12k on the clock and it was certified so it actually fell under the original factory warranty (trucks a 12). It never changed the performance of the truck and actually came on right after I got it. Took it in and they discovered it was an O2 sensor but didn't have one at the dealership. Code cleared but CEL came back on before I got home then went off the next day and stayed off for 6 months. Started coming back on a few weeks ago and back off after a couple days. I'm nearing 36k on the clock so I took it in an got it back the next day.

This truck has exceeded my expectations and it's one that I enjoy driving from a comfort and technology stand point. We all wish it got 18mpg avg but that's not gonna happen. Given the choice between driving my truck vs my wife's 2010 accord ex-l on vacation we generally take the truck!

Being Quiet is a good thing.

I researched the truck mkt extensively when I was ready to purchase. I always wanted a diesel; however, I wear a shirt and tie every day to work and needed a hauler for a 10G boat, motor and trailer to the boat ramp on the w/e s. The diesel option made absolutely no sense to me. The type of driving I do would have been murder on the 6.7. Moreover, the modern diesel is a very complicated power plant and nightmarish if @#$%^ hits the fan, where gas is not.

I have had my 13' 6.2 with the 430 rear end for over a year now, ZERO issues. Amsoli oil changes every 7500 miles and rotation of tires. The engine is real strong and LOVES to be driven hard. This truck suits my needs 100%.

My only problem is keeping my foot off the gas.

When I read your post it took me back to when I bought a new 93 Ranger 4x4 4.0L.
I had a CEL come on within the first 500 miles. Then it would go out etc.
The dealer was a friend of mine. Took it in the shop messed with it & told me my why don't you run some Chevron gas through it every 5 tanks or so. Back then Techron was only available in their gas. Well I did & it seemed to solve the problem. I'm not saying it will fix your issue but it sure reminded me of my issue way back then. This is an issue with Fords for years on a few vehicles it seems. My 99 Crown Vic threw a CEL one morning. I didn't have my reader so I just cleared it dumped some Lucas injector cleaner in the tank I haven't seem a CEL since 4000 miles. I add Lucas every 3-5 tanks of gas pretty much on all my junk.
