Diesel smog tests in Calif.

just smogged my 6.0 at a test only station.

here's the rules:

first, SMOGS ON EVERY DIESEL EVERY YEAR. EVERY.SINGLE.FORKING.YEAR.

at this time, visual test, smoking tailpipe visual, OBDII connection,
feeling up your firmware to see if it is stock. not on the rollers... yet.

you can flash back to stock ten minutes before the test, and pass the
test with a P1000 showing, and 0 warm up cycles. the 'pooter doesn't care.

a banks power logo on the back of the van near the license plate doesn't
make a damn bit of difference.

before you flash back to the code you are currently running, take moment
to drive it with stock code.... then send an email to matt at gearhead, and
tell him you love him.

then pay $330 to the state of california for another year. they need the
money for the bullet train so people can go to bakersfield faster.

1997 and older are exempt. Some counties and zip codes are bi-annual for smog renewal, and there's a few out there that that just require it for change of ownership.

I particularly liked the part on the Bullet Train... One of our Gov's pet projects, was it 65 Billion at last estimate?? And those are always low, like the costs of the Bay Bridge that will soon just pop and fall into the Bay...

I found a friendly shop, but I still don't talk much during the smog

John and Ken on KFI 640 AM in LA like to call that thing the Borwndoggle.

You would think they could of come up with someone other than Jerry again.
I guess to many like being driven into the ground.

that's what i was wondering... when i got the van in 06, i had to smog in
08, and 10... and it's been every year since then. smog only test station
required.

figured i'd been singled out for some reason, but my smog guy says....
nope.... every light diesel, every year. even brand new ones. that's really
all i know on the subject, except that i've had to do it the last four years
in a row.

CARB is just, well... never mind. we all know what CARB is.

the part that is hysterical, i just bought a new off road race bike, the
first one in 30 years. 500cc BETA. it has a pumper carb, and is CARB
approved, and 50 state approved.... so it has a calif. plate on it, thank
you very much.... no fuel injection, you twist the throttle and it squirts
gas into the carb throat. throttle response is awesome. you can sit there
with your left foot on the ground, grab a handful, and lift the front wheel
without your foot leaving the ground. (rekluse auto clutch, i cheated)

fully smog legal. of course you can license it. the BLM is on the other side,
saying you can't ride it anywhere in calif. without a note from the sierra
club.

So what city do you live in that you have to smoke every year? Never heard of that in California period.

My 2005 has been every two years. Never heard of every year unless maybe you got caught at something.

That's the only thing I could think of... Somehow got on a "list" for the van to be checked every year? Mine is still every other and that is way too often just like the fees we get charged are way too high.

Did I start ranting? Or maybe I just never stopped -- election day, maybe we'll have another option come November...

Yeah, every two years. I didn't have to last year. Will have to this year. It goes by the last digit of your vin. Odd versus even digits/years.

I think your memory might be faulty, FT.

If I were you I'd be contacting the DMV and see what the deal is. I've never heard of anyone with a diesel having to submit to a yearly emissions test in California.
