Meet Ole Blue! Fresh out of Falls Church/Bailey's Crossroads Virginia. Previous owner went to the slammer, I picked it up for $500. Im up to $1000 after getting the exhaust manifold serviced TWICE. Heater Core went last week but I'm not getting anymore work done to her for a while. Long as I can drive her (Shes gonna be my daily driver soon) I'm good. Everything works, 1994 F350 460 EFI E40D

The vehicles you get at auction from Gov't surplus are usually very well taken care of - mechanically, anyway. Usually, meticulous records are kept, and they are required to be serviced every so many miles. A friend of mines dad used to work for a local gov't here in Michigan as a mechanic. He said the entire fleet of vehicles for the entire city he worked in had to be serviced every 5000 miles, and given a comprehensive inspection. Whatever was broken, was fixed, and any fluids or regular maintenance was taken care of. Of course, the interiors were trashed - usually from a bunch of add-ons and after market stuff that the vehicles needed - but that's another story....

First truck on the left, $1800 on Craig's list. Bought from son of original owner who handed me the original dealer key chain. Meticulously maintained but its a Pennsylvania truck so has rust, but manageable now that she's in North Carolina. I have spent some money (steering box and Spartan Locker) but nothing outrageous. It was a great buy. The motor has a ton of power and it shifts great. It sits on the rims that came off of Truck #3. I have not touched the engine, hoses, belts, tranny, nothing. 172k and ready to go another.
Second truck in the middle, $1500 on Craig's list. This one is a goodie that got let go, I spent another $2500 getting it up to speed. I'd call this one a loss as far as money goes. 138k or 238k, the jury is out. Drives like a car, 2:73 gears runs great on the road.
Third truck on the right. I looked for what I wanted and found it. Another Craig's list this one was three hours away. $3400 and she was worth every penny. 72k original miles, 351 E4OD 4x4 shortbed with 3:55 gears, I crack a grin every time I get in the driver's seat. And the air conditioning still works great! She's got the best of everything from 1991 except dual tanks - and I don't want dual tanks.
YES - I like the brick noses. 87-91 are what I like.

1996 Northwoods Edition, 5.0/5 speed. Paid $2400 about a year ago with 125K on a replaced gauge cluster, so who knows? Looks good from 20 feet, but get closer and you can see it has some amateur body work done that needs to be redone (rust). It came from Michigan but now resides in Texas.
I've rebuilt the entire rear suspension due to rust and am thinking about replacing the front coils with 2" lift coils to level it out. Also need to replace the body mounts.
The AC recently took a dump, so that is high on my priorities here in Texas. Overall its been a decent truck.

Well I guess I'll go since I started the thread. 44k miles, 351w, automatic trans, no rust anywhere, no leaks, everything works except a few minor things (steering a tad loose, front tank guage doesn't work but tank itself does, cruise doesn't work) but a very solid truck. Paid $6200 and worth every penny

Just got mine a week ago today 91 f250 4x4 extended cab. 80k actual miles It has a few dents and the paint is burned off the hood from sittin outside. its the lariat so its got all the bells and whistles that were available in 91. The guy I got it from bought it in late 92 and he was crazy on maintenance gave me all the service records. all I can say is some shops are a little dishonest. I think its gonna be a good huntin fishin campin truck.

I know it is 80 k for sure because i have the odometer. Disclosure from Greeley dodge the dealership where it was purchased used in november 1992 plus l have all the service records from that day forward when it had 27k on it never found miles less on service rocords or more than what it has now.

I skimmed through here, and I'd say that I definitely paid on the high side for mine.
Here is what it looked like just after I got back from driving it home in 08 (man I look young). I bought it on eBay for $4500 with 138k on the ticker. I committed to buy it before I even knew if the bank would loan me the money. I flew out that weekend and had the owner pick me up at the airport so we could go to his bank and deposit my check, then I was on my own to drive home. It was in running condition but had a couple broken lug nuts and one auto locking hub was blown. I know what you mean about how hard these trucks are to find in good shape. That's why I jumped the gun on this one. It was exactly what I wanted.
This is how the truck looked at this time last summer. I've gone to 2" taller tires (32"), and went with heavier front springs. Other than that, it's just been basic maintenance over the years. I just rolled over 214k last week. Only leak I've had is the rear main seal started leaking between 180-190k. I've done nothing to the engine, transmission, or axles.

I picked this one up for $1000. It's an 89 and has 230k on it (I think). The seller thought it was losing power so he sold it cheap. It turned out to be the computer that shifts the transmission. It was telling the tranny to shift way too soon. So it would be in OD at 30mph! So that was the "loss of power"". I just swapped in a ZF5 manual so that fixed the problem. Could of gotten a computer for $500, but then I wouldn't have a manual, and it is awesome to drive.

1993 5.8, had trans rebuilt and transfer case rebuilt before I got it, 4.56 gears with eaton locker, 6" skyjacker lift with rancho long radius arms, mickey thompson wheels and new 33" general grabber tires. I did have to replace the starter and 4 days after I got it the computer fried. So I have about $350 in repairs. Truck has no rust and looks like new inside and under the hood. I paid $4500 for it.

1997 F250 HD 460, auto. Had rust on bed and fenders, I put the flatbed on it and its my farm truck that pulls my race car to the track a few times a year. Ive had it over 3 years and all Ive done was rebuilt the complete front end other than general maintenace. I paid $2200 for it if my memory serves me correct. He was asking $5500 for it when I went to look at it but was needing money bad.

92 flareside xlt 5.0 5 speed. 2wd 162 000 original kilometers, hard tonneau cover (paint peeling). Was in a barn for 5 years before i bought it. It needed brakelines, clutch and misc tuneup stuff but for 1000 bucks i couldn't say no. The roof clearcoat is going, but for the most part body/paint is a good 7/10.
