Keyless entry problem

Hi all,

I own a 1996 Econoline conversion van. The batteries in my FOB died. Not a big deal. Go to the store, by some new ones that match previous. Put them in, go home and now the FOB won't work _AND_ I can get into my van without setting off the anti-theft. I've done research on how to reprogram the van to recognize the FOB, but every method I've seen the anti-theft has to be disarmed.

So....

1.) Is there a way to disarm the anti-theft INSIDE the van WITHOUT it crippling the ignition?

2.) Do I actually have to re-sync the FOB with the van? Or should it do that automatically?

_ANY_ help is appreciated!
