Well took the 89 F250 for a drive and turns out it still is getting hot. Either is radiator, still the radiator cap, thermostat, water pump or hoses. Hoping radiator cap and thermostat.

I know on my explorer I need a radiator cap since everything else has been replaced.

Time to narrow down that list on the 89! When does it overheat? While moving or when idling?

I don't let the 89 idle more then a minute. It is always driving and usually hauling something but their is a once in a while time it isn't. The gauge doesn't show hot at all you just can tell it is hot.

You will be going down the road and the truck will stall out. You crank it and it won't get fuel like it vapor locks before it gets to the injectors. My buddy tried touching the radiator and it damn near burned him.

I believe the water pump has been replaced once before as it has permatex on it which I personally never use to the extent of it gooing out everywhere.

Just in case it matters:
truck is a 1989 Ford F250 4x4 ZF5 351W 4.10LS. It was originally in a front end collision and I replaced all the body panels and put a really heavy flatbed on it.
The radiator showed no signs of leaks so I left it be but not sure if it has a very slow leak now.

The truck is usually used to haul our 16Ft flatbed and materials or other vehicles.

I kinda need it fixed as the first or around the first I have to tow the flatbed to Show low (which is a 40 mile one way trip with big hills and everything) to get the tittle to the mustang which the stang will be on the trailer. If the 89 doesn't stop acting up I will have to use the 02 which I prefer not to do as that truck has been driven more then I prefer to like to drive in one month. (Usually I only put 40 miles on each month on the 02 this month I have put 300+ driving to winslow, show low, and to town often).

Hm, so the radiator gets hot, but gauge doesn't show anything... have you checked the thermostat recently?

Got a brand new one in the mustang just laying in the package and it is a 180 so going to test it if it is good going to get a thermostat gasket and put it in. Not sure how to test the thermostat while in the truck.

I am pretty sure it is something simple because the truck was running great until a few days after my explorer blew the water pump and I had replaced everything on it minus radiator and radiator cap. Without looking in my service records that was about a month or two ago.
The 89 F250 we only drive about 6-10 times a month. Usually I am driving my explorer or now the 04 Envoy.

Hey Guys,
I back home. Had a great trip. My buddy & I celebrated his 70s birthday. for a few days. The Crown Vic ran flawless. Avg 21 mpg, drove up about 70 mph & came home running 80 mph. About a 1000 mile round trip.
The weather in Western Central Nevada was just lovely. Highs in the High 80s nights cooled off to the 60s.
My buddy gave me a real nice 6 & 12 volt 6 amp battery charger. one of the older heavy duty chargers. Just what I wanted. I helped him get a few minor repairs done around his house & cars.
Good to get home to the wife but the hot weather really sucks after this trip. I really dislike summers here in Bullhead.

I just spent 3 days in San Francisco. The weather is great. I don't enjoy Arizona this much. If only the cost of living and taxes weren't oppressive.

Howdy Dwill & Trav.
Another day. Have a few things to do.
Dwill I love Arizona. I'm just don't like the hot muggy summers of Bullhead City.
I worked in California & other than the Eastern Sierra's you can have all of California. We left Nevada because it has become much like California a liberal cesspool.

Good choice Trav.
I only go back to Nevada because I have a couple of close friends there that I grew up with & have a long history there.
We are all getting old so I pray that every time I see them it won't be the last time.

Yeah, I lived in California for 23 years, not a fan at all, but my family and closest friends are still out there, so I have to go back there from time to time. There isn't much going for that state. As for Nevada, I like visiting. A lot of history out in the deserts up north.
