Need Help On 1966 Bronco Purchase.

Hello All,

I am looking into purchasing a 1966 Ford Bronco and needed some help in seeing if it is a fair deal. The owner is wanting $8200 for a " 200ci inline 6, three on the tree".

It has typical surface rust all over except on the passenger door with having a 3 inch circle shaped rust area that is sealed. The speedometer does not work and the hard top has been off for years. (Driven with only bikini top on in rain/shine). There is no back bench but does have the brackets. The alternator, voltage regulator, and starter has been replaced. New radiator added last year.

I really appreciate any and all feedback. And I'm hoping this is a great deal for me.

Here are some photos of the vehicle:

Thank you.

Hard to price these things without a full inspection. I would be thinking more in the $5-6K range. There is a ton of hidden rust area's. I love my I6's, but they just don't bring the price of V8's. Rust repair gets expensive fast.

I was thinking more like $6000 as well, but trucks this old are getting scarcer. As they get harder to find the prices do go up. Even if it's not "worth" $8000 the seller might get it.

We field these Qs quite often: all ways the same - v8,more money; uncut rear, more money; more original, more money; near a city, more; etc; etc; etc. Just depends on buyer/seller. I too like the I6, idles lower. If ur in TX, there's alot of them. Ask the locals (the "Lone Star" club has an online 4WD presence). Comparison shop.
This one: ? $2K - $5K round here? ...
This one has alot missing and alot added. The pipes in the back R the original rear bench - very easy to restore (2 piece ply, 2 of foam & a cover from Castle Rock, CO). It may have been converted to 2 WD (I see no 3-on-the-tree/floor or auto's shift lever but there is a clutch peddle & no transfer case lever)??? There was no 200/3.3 in 1966...

That is odd looking now that you mention it. But the one stick that's there looks like it has a transfer case shift pattern on it (hard to see from the angle, so I could be wrong). But still, where is the transmission shift lever? I suppose it could be a 3 on the tree and the lever is just hidden behind the steering wheel spoke.

The shifter on the floor is the T case, it looks like the collar on the column has been replaced where the shifter would be. 66 is the first year and there was no V8 option, 200 6 cyl is correct and price I agree with the general consensus

"...66 is the first year and there was no V8 option, 200 6 cyl is correct..."
Issue #1 was Oct '65 for the '66 model (ask "Numbers Dummy" a well informed, albeit not bronk expert, member on here). Optional 289 added in early '66. There till '69 when the 302 came in. 200 came in '73 for a yr or 2 only.

Heck it's a 50 yr old vehicle, all sorts a things can B moded. This one may B a '73. Need to check block/head casting numbers, frame numbers, etc. What does it matter? (unless ur going concourse correct). If U like it buy it...

Recently helped a friend purchase a 71 half cab in much better shape, rust free, no dents only scratches for $7200.

Look closely at the right spoke of the steering wheel in the "interior front" photo. The three speed shifter is hiding behind that spoke. You can see part of it at the rim, and part near the hub--the angled part going into the shift collar.

No charge.

My '66 came with the 170 c.i. engine, manuf. Oct. 1965. My trans. case shifter is much longer than the picture.

Old post I know, but I wouldn't give $4,000 for it - here's why.

What would I keep? Frame, body, rear axle housing, Dana 20 transfer case. Those parts are not worth all that much IMO. If you must have it just to have an early Bronco then it's worth whatever you are willing to pay.

The more desirable Broncos are the later models for good reason.

Dana 30 or Dana 44
Automatic option or 3 "on the tree" only
Power assist steering or not
Power assist brakes or not
Disc front brakes or not
Stronger rear axle housing

There is only one item I know of on the later Broncos that is not considered "better" and that is the inverted Y steering linkage on the 76 & 77 models. I'm sure there are many othe differences as well, but the Bronco was improved a lot from 1966 to 1977.
