1998 F150 plow compatibility
Hi all,
I'm a newbie and first time poster. Just picked up a 1998 F-150 Ext. Cab 4.6L 4x4. It has a 7'6" Western Pro Plow which has never been mounted on the truck. The plow came from a 1996 Ford F-350 from what I can tell (apparently they sell part numbers, there isn't a specific model number for the whole enchilada).
Does anybody have any experience in what it takes to retrofit a plow, other than a good amount of fabrication? I'm guessing the plow is a bit much for the truck, but I only intend on using it on my driveway so I'm not going to be romping on it at all. The guy I am buying it from says he got a quote from a local guy to get it rigged up for around $200 which sounds low to me.
I'm taking it into my shop tomorrow to get them to quote it out, but thought I'd send it up here to hopefully help others who might have a similar question and maybe see what I've gotten myself into. It may make sense to just sell that one and get the right plow for the truck I'm thinking.
Thanks in advance!
Jeff

That plow weighs almost 800 lbs, and is too much for an F150. When I wanted a plow for my 97 F150 there were not a lot of the lighter weight residential plows available. I would consider selling the Western and buying a light duty plow, especially since you will have to get fabrication work done. YMMV

That makes sense, thanks. I suspect that's going to wind up being even more expensive unfortunately unless I happen to get lucky enough to find somebody interested in trading up to a heavier duty one and wants to get rid of their lighter-duty model. If anybody is in the central/western NY area and is interested in a possible trade, I'm willing to deliver if needed. The plow is in good shape, some paint gone and minor surface rust, but I can strip the metal and repaint it before we make the trade. All the components appear to be in good working order and I have all the wiring/controls. The mount is ready to go as well. Thanks!
