Cool Bad Master Cylinder

About 2 weeks ago the power steering pump went out on my 2008 F-250. I took it to a dealership and they replaced that and also need to replace the gear box. When I picked it up, the truck was making a humming noise and the brake pedal was vibrating.

I went out of town, it was driven maybe 200 miles during the last couple of weeks. On Saturday, the brake pedal went to the floor (luckily while pulling into a parking lot). I had it towed back to the same place. When I opened the hood the master cylinder was broken and a nut was missing (missing as in never put on, not broke off).

My question is this: to replace the power steering pump and gear box on this model, does it require doing anything to the master cylinder? Do they need to shift it slightly? Take it out completely? Anything?

I am just trying to figure out if this is the mechanics fault, or a legitimate fluke. I don't trust them to tell me the truth about it.

They should not need to mess with the master cylinder itself.

I think you need to open the hood more often yourself.

Wow, that was useful. I appreciate the answer about the master cylinder, but that was not necessary.

Since I see you are a moderator you can just go ahead and delete my account if that is the support I am going to get here.

I should have explained a bit...sorry to offend.

these motors now are so complex, checking all fluids and connections, at least a visual is adviseable now.

I check all my fluids weekly. I check the radiator seams as well. They have been known to leak since the ends are plastic now.
