Looking back at your build, what an awesome job. When you installed the gas tank, it looks like you have fuel tank plumbing that is higher than the top of the frame rails. How much clearance do you have between the top of the frame rails and the bottom of the floor boards with the bed installed?
The tank is a twenty gallon and with the pump in the tank it is a big tank. I had mount it high in the frame so it didn't hang down really low. In order to clear the top mount fittings I had to raise the bed a few inches. That's ok though because I needed the clearance for the rear diff.
Makes perfect sense. If I remember correctly, once the bed box rails are installed across the frame rails, there is only 1" or less clearance between underside of wood bed and top of frame . Wow, I was just looking at the new aluminum beds at Mid Fifty. Look like wood but made of flooring composites laminated to aluminum. If I did not already have my bed wood (real oak) purchased, I would consider the laminate product.
I considered the aluminum bed "wood" but I have to trim it due to the mini tubs. I am not sure how well it would hold up to the cutting. I am afraid the finish would peel or chip.
If its like flooring for a house, it should be fine. without seeing it, I would think a router bit and jig would make a perfect cut with no chipping or delamination.
