Turns out my Dana 53 is a 2.89 Lincoln

Greetings, update after all the help I received about my Dana 53, and my thoughts about building a 9" to keep as a back up, I figured I'd let you know what I found today when I pulled the cover off the D 53. Well its a 2.89 track lock with 21 spline c clip axels. According to my research this means its out of a Lincoln, as the 2.89 was only made for the Lincoln, and used Ford axels . Using the formulas on the internet, with a non overdrive automatic ( I have a C-4), and my 295/15 tires I should turn about 2549 RPM at 65 MPH. That ratio, along with not finding any noticeable wear or damage on any of the gears, reinforces my decision to leave it alone and keep an eye out for a good 9" with a similar ratio for a back up project. The limited slip still works well and every thing else is avail thru Kaiser ****** Auto Supply, with the exception of axels. The date on the ring gear is 7 13 64, so I'm guessing it was probably out of a 65 Lincoln. I know Pics- (There is rag lint and oil distorting the sharpness)

I'd say you really lucked out. I have a 9 inch with 2.91 gears that I took out. i don' think you can get a limited slip, at least not a Eaton true trac, for anything taller than 3.25 gears.

Hi there Ross, thanks for chiming in, as far as the LS they were avail for the Lincoln, and since it spins both tires I assumed it was. No wonder I couldn't find any clutch plates Huh! LOL
