Truck Stance/Height

Hi All,

Does anyone know how to achieve the stance of the truck in the link below? Do you all think this looks better on a short bed or a long bed truck? Can I jus cut coil springs and be done with it or will it be more involved? Thanks!

Refer to the tech thread compilation sticky and find lots of info on lowering.

What does the article say about how it was lowered? You did read the accompanying article, right?

They offer lowering beams at lmc truck. But I'm pretty sure you have to buy the lowering shocks with it, and that can get expensive. You could cut the coils. But I've read that it's not good for the type of suspension. So don't do that. Lol

DJM beams are overpriced through LMC. Get 'em from Summit.

Front lowering shocks aren't required... all drop beams do is increase distance of the spindle relative to the I-beams' center line so it's the same suspension travel as stock - about 2.5 inches from the I-beam to the bumpstop.

Ya *might* get away cutting up to half a coil. MIGHT. Beyond that and camber gets whacky and of course, it'll end up with less suspension travel.

Dream beams are an option but you run into suspension travel problems. Crown vic and mustang 2 front suspensions are pretty common swaps and handle very well. In the back it looks to have a moderate drop, maybe just a spring under axle. The rear tires also look to be larger than the front.

Thanks guys....and yes I did read the article. My fault for not being clearer. What I wanted to say was, yes the aftermarket Ibeams are an option, they were used on this truck but was there a less expensive solution. Thanks to everyone who replied. I love this forum!

From everything I have read, cutting coils is not the best route. It can cause lots of problems and WILL decrease drivability. I remember riding in a lowered truck when I was younger, much younger, that was done the cheap way and it felt like there was no suspension. Every little bump went through your spine and rattled your teeth. Even seams in the highway rattled your dome. I would save the money and do it the "right" way.

Just my 2 cents.

if you have fab skills crown vic suspension will probably end up around the same price as drop beams. Allot of the stance on that truck is due to big tires on the back and smaller on the front.
