2wd to 4wd conversion

Yes I have driven vehicles with a true locker in the front axle. They are a real bi**ch to steer. Limited slip....much easier.

Maybe I should have clarified: if you do an SAS and put the shackles at the rear of the front springs, and not the terrible factory design, it is very similar to doing an SAS on a bronco.

Diesel_Brad WHY would you even consider going to a 10 bolt?!?!?
You would gain NOTHING out of it other than very difficult parts availability
I want to go 10 bolt because I haul a lot, over 24,000 lbs a lot, & my boat nearly every day in the summer, plus I want to run a certain type of rim that only comes in 10 lug.
& Briansshop yes I do need to get busy, luckily I'm a diesel mechanic by trade & I have 24/7 access to a badass shop lol
& I am also thinking about eventually swapping the 7.3l with a caterpillar engine, if, emphasis on the if, the 7.3 ever dies. It currently has 62,331 miles on it, it's not even broken in yet!

The 10 lug wheels would give you nor more weight accruing capacity.
I just went thru all this when I made my truck a dually.
Just a FYI, the tires are a big limiting factor. The F-superduty still use 235/85/16s same thing that you have on there now.
Also a F-superdut has a GVW of 15k, you truck has a GVW of 10k. The BOTH have a GCVW of 20k
Another Cat engine swap?!? Again, WHY? If you want power with reliability go with either a Cummins or IH DT360. Both will make in excess of 500hp reliably and VERY simply, without having to put a 4" body lift in and dog housing the firewall

Haha they do look good crewcabber, & diesel_brad I don't like cummins or ih. I work on cat's for a living, the shop I work at, we just got done doing a full custom cat c-15 8.3l for a customer's logging rig, we dyno'd it at 1,271 hp & 3,186 lb ft of torque, it was running a fully custom twin turbo setup, that thing was a bad mother trucker man!
