1947 1 1/2 ton V8

Does anyone know if a fan shroud was a factory part on these trucks? I own other later model trucks that did not have them stock (different makes) my concern is that the one someone put on my truck gets into the fan when the terrain is not level. It's very annoying.

Thanks

Don't know if this helps but one of my '40 1 1/2 tons had what appears to be a factory shroud and the other doesn't. Don't know about a '47 since the '40's had crank mounted fans.

A fan shroud was optional, if not standard equipment. What is the condition of your motor mounts?
Can you post a picture of your fan, radiator, and shroud? With a picture we should be able to tell you if you have correct parts.

My '47 2 ton had one when I got it last winter. I noticed it was really close tolerance. I installed an 8ba engine and never got around to reinstalling the shroud. Doesn't seem to need it, as I'm not hauling 4000 lbs of potatoes over a mountain pass in August. I have had flathead overheating issues in the past and always wondered how the trucking industry dealt with the heavily loaded trucks pulling long grades in really hot weather. Anyhow, my shroud is hanging on the shop wall. It was definately a factory installation.

Thank you everyone. I took some pictures but can't post them. The engine mounts appear fine and not oil soaked or smushed out. I'll be hauling logs and lumber, bulk feed, and whatever else I can find to haul so it will probably need one since from May to September it's the sun here. I have one off of a '51 F-5 if it will work.

I think the later shroud will work on your truck. I think the radiators are basically the same except the diameter of the top radiator hose connections.

So 38 are you saying a radiator from a '48 ford 1 1/2 ton would fit in a '47 1 1/2 ton? My rad is pretty sad shape and added to that, I'm running an 8ba with the small upper hoses. I know of a guy locally that parted out a '48 but I always thought that a whole different body style would mean a different radiator size/shape. Hmmmmm he even said I could have it. Sorry if this constitutes a hijack, you just got me wondering.......

GB, I think the latter radiator would bolt in and work fine for you. That said, I haven't done this myself. I have picked up (no pun intended) a 47 radiator in decent shape as a back up for my 49 should anything go horribly wrong at the front of my engine. The mounting flanges, lower hose connections, core, everything but the upper hoses looks the same to me. I will be interested to see what you find.

There are some good pictures of an F series radiator and shroud in this thread so you can get an idea how similar things are: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...uild-pics.html

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...
