That is my point exactly. The battery in that circuit is hooked negative ground, not like our positive ground 6v trucks. At least any electronic or electrical circuitry I've worked with showed the short plate as negative. And as you say, makes not a difference.

Let us know how the matched set works out, please. Where did you get it?

Good catch. I didn't notice it, but the large battery plate is always positive in electronic symbols.

Every reference I could find to the '56 gas gauge/ sending unit says it is a one-of-a-kind. It's 12 volts, unlike the 48-55 and 57 to ? Starting in '57, Ford used the earlier 6 volt gauges and dropped the 12 volts going to them.

I got it at mid fifty , they gave me a deal because the sending unit I bought from them was not working with my gauge . They also are going to do some checking to find out why . they have some original gauges and are going to test them with the sending units they sell for the 56

And THAT's why we love doing business with them.

Well, that and the Tootsie Rolls...

Ran into similar problems myself when i was trying to find a replacement for my stock sender. Ran into alot of cases where they'd send a '57-'60 sender or a '53-'55 for a 12v system. (mainly noticeable wrong length float rods). Anyhow, finally after going through a few sources i found one that seems to work perfectly fine with a stock gauge. The one I ordered from MAC's Antique Auto parts had a short float rod. So don't waste your time on that one. At that time, Mid-Fifty didn't offer a stock replacement sender, just the set (gauge/sender) of their own.

National Parts Depot (NPD) # F-9275-1E
1948-1979 Ford Truck Parts | NPD

Funny as it came in a box that said "MFG. by Vintique Inc."
and that number was# B6C-9275

Anyways, my gauge now works like a champ.

If you get a chance check the ohm reading at full and empty . I would like to know what they are . Also while talking to the Mid fifty rep , the topic of car shows came up . I told her about the upcoming TRuckstock . She liked the concept ,and will be sending me gift certificates and hand outs , to pass around to the attendees , There also will be plenty of tootsie rolls .

OK.. so I have read, and re-read several times...

I have a stock set-up, on a 56.. It was working fine for many years..

Now, all of the sudden when full, it reads 1/2...

Is it a heating coil issue?

What would cause that? I suppose I can buy the matched set and get it over with, but.. Like many.. Im a tinkerer..

Ideas?
