Question 2012 f250 transmission problem

This is a new one. In the morning I back out of garage, shift to netral, coast and turn till I am pointing down driveway. Drop in gear, put in 4 wheel and start to coast down short grade. During which I apply light throttle. Now the problem happens. There is no response from engine. Can push foot feed to floor and nothing, then feel it start to wake up and downshift like I was going to the races. Only happens first thing in morning, rest of day normal. Any help?

No response from engine when you push in the gas pedal? Or are you saying the transmission is slipping and you hear engine revving? Not sure how engine not responding equates a transmission problem?

Sorry, I'm a bit confused by how you've laid out the issue.

I suppose I could of said I just have a problem. But the transmission was in gear, just maybe not hooked up to the engine. When I say nothing happened, that is what I mean. No engine rev, no sound from tranny, nothing. Almost like the switch was turned off. I see this has had a lot of lookers and not one smart --- reply. Thank you for that. But any ideas?

So you are slow rolling and coasting down a hill in Drive and lightly pressing down gas pedal? I'm wondering if the trans is upshifting while you're coasting downhill and now you are in a taller gear. Then when you mash down the gas pedal, the trans first has to downshift to lower gear? Next time try using the "+/-" buttons on your shift lever, and press once to get your shifter to display what gear your trans is in. Basically it "lights up" the trans indicator and you can see what gear your trans currently is in. May help figure out the problem.

Also, does it only do it when it's really cold out, or only do it on a steep hill? Have you checked your trans fluid level?

I would record the behavior, narrating what you're doing (showing the pedal to the floor and no response from truck) and take it to the dealer.

This sounds like the trans cold soak issue that a lot of us with '11's experienced.

I would also try reversing (instead of neutral) down the driveway and skip the 4wd engagement. Try isolating the issue one step at a time to see which may be causing the problem.

We'll Slowpoke Slim, I think you hit the nail on the head. As it rolls it goes into second gear, then the motor has to catch up. Computer gets lost in the shuffle and has to start over. Anyhow I did it four times this morning so Iam convinced itis OK. Steady gas right from the start works fine. Thanks for your help.

Glad it was something simple. The other thing you "could" do, is try it with "tow/haul" engaged. It probably wouldn't upshift if you were riding the brake or idling down, but it still may upshift with your foot lightly on the gas. Or you could shift to M for manual mode before you start moving down and it should stay in 1st regardless on if you give it any gas or not.
