So I am looking at a 2002 Explorer with a blown 4.0 V6 that has a blownengine. I have access to a 2003 Explorer with a 4.6 V8 that has been totaled. Iam thinking about the possibility of swapping in the 4.6 to replace the 4.0.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

What all is involved? What will match up and what will not?<o></o>

I figure at least the under hood wiring harness (V6 to V8) and the ECM.<o></o>

Are the bellhousing patterns the same.<o></o>

Do they have the same transmissions?<o></o>

If you can get the complete donor vehicle this is possible but it's not trivial, transmission bolt patterns are not the same so this is a complete powertrain swap not just the motor, and you can count on changing a lot of wiring and the computer too.
