no start, hard start, questions
Ok I have a 04 with 144k on the speedo. SCT tuned. During this past winter it would always start. Some times it would start real quik other times it would start but sounded muffled not the quick crack when starting. Over this weekend it dropped down in the mid 30s in the mornings, which is not cold. Saturday it would fart when you 1st started to crank and some times start then stop quickly. It was blowing smoke. Mostly white. Finally got it to stay running while holding the starter on. Drove it on multiple trips that day and it ran fine. Sunday morning It did about the same but would not start. I did some quick searching on here on the no start thread. It could be the FICM. I tried the heat gun method on the FICM and it did start but was a little rough but I shut it down. I let the FICM cool back down. I checked voltage and it showed 47volts. The outside air temp at that time was 55-60. I did wiggle some of the wire harnesses around to check for chaffing. I did end up starting it and it ran rough at 1st then smoothed out. I decided to try something for monday morning which was maybe 43 degrees. I plugged the block heater in on a timer like I always do. It did start right up but again was rough for a few seconds till it smoothed out. Today I did the same thing and it started up just fine. It sat for about 4 hours on the job the outside air temp was 60. It started but was a real rough idle and was blowing black smoke and I could smell diesel. It did smooth out and ran fine after that. It is not throwing any codes.
So does anybody have any ideas on where to point me?

Just an update.
I bought a scan guage II to check voltages on the FICM. The voltages where off when cold but where close to normal when warm. I ended up getting a FICM from ED at Ficm Repair with the atlas 40 tune. All is well now. Truck runs and starts like it used too.
