I have a vacuum leak somewhere, my 4.0 whistles at steady speed. Accelerate and it stops, decelerate and it stops.
2001 Sport Trac 4x4
4" suspension lift
3" body lift
4:10 gears
285/75/16 tires
It doesn't like 70mph...still needs reprogrammed for speedo/ tire size, but I just take it out of overdrive and let her roll!
Just got it in the fall of 2014 so I haven't had much time in the seat yet.

Put a wrench on all your exhaust manifold bolts. One of them might be a quarter turn loose. This is the same problem I had with my jeep

Today, mine got it's first "real" 4WD workout. We got about 6" of snow overnight and very little had been cleared on the roads by the time I left for work at 7:30 this morning. Only 2 of the 3 lanes on each side of the highway had some clearing done to them, secondary roads were still covered over and compacted. The Explorer handled it pretty well...had a couple slips just making some hard turns (turning left or right onto a cross-street) but other than that, no problem. This storm alone makes me feel like I've got my money's worth out of the truck. I bought it 4 months ago for only a grand...it has now officially served it's purpose.

Of course, the office is a ghost town otherwise...

Today I discovered a coolant leak. I got to work this morning, parked, then had to go back to the truck to get something else. As I was walking back to it, I could see coolant dripping from underneath. 2 spots...one up from around the front of the engine, and the other slightly back on the passenger side of the engine. I can't crawl under to get a better idea where it's coming from since the roads are wet and sloppy from all this wonderful winter weather we've been having so I made an appointment to take it in to my shop on Friday morning and have it looked over.

Hoping it's nothing too serious. I'm hoping no worse than a water pump.

Not today, but over the weekend, I had to replace the seat pedestal. Now, the seat is upright like it should be and doesn't have that La-z-boy recliner feel. Taught the kid that you don't push back against the seat with your shoulders when setting the parking brake to hopefully avoid having to do this in the near future. While the seat was out, the kid vacuumed out all the junk that you just can't get to when the seat is installed. I think I might do this on the passenger side some day.

If you have a 4.0 they love to leak at the thermostat housing. I always replace the whole thing. Its all plastic so they get brittle with age. I believe Dorman sells a kit or you can order the motorcraft one.

Did you correct your calculation for tire size and gearing? My odometer is off by about 6% so that's about 1 mpg. Still, I don't think I get better than 17-18 mpg in my '98.

No I haven't done that yet, and need to. I will do that in the near future, but I was shocked at 11.2....

That lift and big tires look great! But I don't think the 4.0 likes them!

I had it at the shop today and they did it...that's exactly what it was. Total job was $400...I think they got a Ford part (typically they work with the dealership to get parts).

Wish it would've happened at a different time of year, I certainly could've taken care of it myself. But I don't have a covered area to work on my vehicles...the weather here sucks right now and we just got 6" of snow last night...so yeah. Ah well, it's taken care of and the mechanic gave the truck overall his "stamp of approval" for it's mileage and age...that was a good sign.

Yeah parts cost to do the jib on a 4.0 stang my niece has was 100 plus coolant. Its not a hard job at all, but with weather and no place to work on it, its hard to fault you for taking it in. Glad you got it back in action.

Got 200 miles from hitting 245K on her and she is still running great.
May need a set of tires, a better battery, the doors fixed, and drivers window fixed but so far best non Fseries vehicle (other then motorcycle) I have had.
