removing steering shaft 39 1 1/2 ton

Can the steering shaft be removed from the steering box or is the shaft part of the worm drive?

The shaft goes into the steering box and the worm gear presses onto the shaft. You have to take the steering wheel off (probably best done with the official steering wheel puller), mast jacket off, then disassemble the steering box. Why are you wanting to remove your shaft?

Thanks or the reply ....I have channelled the body and the column is wanting to be where the dash board now is and I wanted to remove it until I reset the front steering. It's on I can unbolt the whole box and tilt it and move it forward on the chassis.

If you are keeping the stock suspension I would NOT move the box forward. If you do that yo will upset the steering geometry. You can modify the mounting plate on the frame to angle the box down some, but not too much.

Thanks for the reply, I will be changing the geometry as well and moving the axle assembly forward so it should be OK.
