Reading Codes 99 4.6 E150
My newly acquired 99 E150 with the 4.6 has a stumble/miss? at low speeds under load. When revving engine in neutral, it sounds great. Previous owner said it was coughing thru intake and garage wanted to remove/rebuild reinstall engine( it sounds way too good to need that work done ).
Will a data port reader show a code that would pinpoint a spark plug/spark plug wire/or injector issue ? Don't have one but might buy one if anyone can suggest which one to buy .
Truck has 140K on it with good service records.
Thanks for any info!

I personally use a "older" Actron CP9580 which is about 5 years old---its been one of the best tools acquired for our modular motors. Its pinpointed more than a few minor issues on my E250's as well as other brands too. Neighbors and friends are shocked and pleased to learn I have such a device---those who're paying upwards of $100 for just plugging it in and reading them the results. Anyway..............
Any good code reader today will point you in a specific area, the better ones come with a library of reported fixes for most any code it can read. Look for a version with code canceling too---that's another handy thing to have post repair.
I like the Actron brand, find them on eBay, Amazon etc---do some price shopping and you'll be pleased how "cheap" you can get into one. Honestly for your year/model a gently used or NOS Actron CP9580 like mine would do fine and probably be had for around $100 new. Here's just one example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Actron-CP9580-Enhanced-Auto-Scanner-Plus-with-Code-Connect-open-package-/380904349404?hash=item58afab1edc&item=380904349404&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr
FWIW if you find the CP9850A its the same scanner but supposedly with an "enhanced Asian" aspect---assuming that means Hyundai, Kia, et al. It'll work but if its not needed no sense in paying that premium price.
There are cheaper ways to go---your needs and budget dictate what you'll buy.
