1996 F-350 clutch slipping

i have a 1996 F-350 5 speed 4x4 just recently when driving when i shifted into 3rd 4th and 5th gear the rpm's would rev up and clutch would slip. Just want to know what all i could check that would cause this problem before going straight to a new clutch. Any help is appreciated!

welcome to FTE.
what engine do you have? if diesel, your problem could be the dual mass flywheel

its a 7.3l and the tranny is the ZF S5-42 i have looked under the dash and seen the plastic bushing where the push rod that comes out the master cylinder and goes on that pin was wore out. the pin was also wore giving the pedal some slack. i changed the plastic bushing but need to change pin. just wanted to know what all else i could check or procedures to do before going straight to new clutch kit. THANKS

a simple way to test for the flywheel is this:
clutch works fine when cold, but after around 1/2 hr or more driving it starts to slip in higher gears.

at stop i could put the truck in 5th gear, let out on the clutch and the truck sit there, in gear, and the engine would not stall out.

let it sit for 8 hours and try it cold though and the engine would stall out.

what happened with all of my dual mass equipped trucks was the dual mass would separate when hot mimicking a slipping clutch. but when i took each one apart, the clutch disc was in perfect condition on all of them..

on my 88 i put an automatic in.
but on the other 5 trucks, i switched to the Luk solid flywheel setup.
here are a few different ones:

Wont that put to much tourqe on your tranny? My understanding is that the DMF is to ease the tourqe from the 7.3 motor into the transmission. If you go with a solid set I've heard of problems with vibration noise and over all wear on the transmission. Had any of these problems?

yes you get gear roll noise, but i would rather have a little noise and know i will get where i am going than have to worry about whether the damn pos flywheel is going to leave me stranded on the side of the road again.
