1956 F100 Windshield

A couple of years ago I found a very original 56 F100. It was a mid-west farm truck, carefully stored and well preserved. It currently has 31,000 miles and I am the third owner. The second owner knew the truck and detailed the engine compartment nicely back to stock. Aside from a repaint of the original Meadowmist Green about 35 years ago, everything else is original. All of the emblems and hardware are original. I took off the original wheels and original argent painted hubcaps and put them away. Same with the Ford scripted side mirrors. All of the glass is original except for the windshield. I would like to replace the windshield due to a recent stone chip. Any recommendations for the best windshield? Does Ford still supply them? Were windshields tinted back then?

Thanks,
John

Is the chip bad enough to rule out an epoxy repair? Gotta admit in some cases what can be repaired to be invisible is pretty amazing and the cost is favorable when compared to new glass.

AFAIK there is only 1 co. making replacement windshields none are LOF. They come clear and green gradiated tint. I've never seen anything indicating that Ford ever offered an OEM tinted windshield.

Not cheap, but they have nice glass. I bought all of my glass for the 53 from these guys. You can choose the tint you want, or no tint at all.

Yes, check the older local auto glass shops, may be cheaper when you include shipping, mine was, and will be able to put it in for you as well if you have a new rubber seal.

One nice thing about getting it local if you can, if they break it, it's on them. If you carry one in and they break it, chances are good they'll wish you good luck and send you on your way to find another one.

I went to Safelite the other day. They gave me a price of $450 installed. Also talked to Classic Auto (mentioned above) they had a warehouse here in St Louis! You need to see if they have something close to you. I believe he gave me a price of $550 for every piece of glass PLUS shipping. Don't forget to get a new windshield rubber.
