Cylinder sleeve kit for 7.3

On the old IDIs, you could get a machine shop to bore the cylinder and install a sleeve. But if it wasn't done right, the sleeve would drop, and leak at the head gasket, and usuall result in a destroyed block from the sleve dropping. That sleeve was a dry type sleeve that was pressed/"glued" in place. To install one correctly, the machine shop should leave a "lip" at the bottom of the over bore to prevent the sleeve from dropping. I have never heard of anyone doing this to a stroke, but I guess you would have to do the same proceedure.

Sleeves are done all the time to fix any engine, the 7.3 PSD is no different.
I had our local shop price one out to fix a motor, I think it was around $300 just to sleeve it. But around here 7.3's complete turbo to pan sell for $600 - $1000, so it just wasn't worth it.

Ya, the stroke is more ready available so it is not cost effective to sleeve one. The old IDIs were more prone to cavitation in the #7 an #8 cylinders. Some engine rebuilders got a bad rep on their rebuilds by not sleeving the IDI the correct way.

the psd is thin walled too, my friend has one that he left sit dry for 10 years, six months after he put it in it, cavitated 7 and 8
mainly I would just like to know where my friend got his parts, he rebuilt the motor for 1000 bucks, he had access to machine tools to save on machine work. now I can't fins a master kit for a 1000 bucks

jasper was the biggest offender for this. they would just bore out the cylinder then press the liner in. after around 10-15 thousand miles the liner would drop and POW blown engine.

I had that happen on a 383 Chrysler in a '68 Road runner I had years ago. What began as a rough idle and surging problem less than 5k out of rebuild became a replacement engine.
