60,000 Mile Self-Service
Hey All,
Fairly new to the forum but looking for some help. I am on a budget and trying to cut my cost on my 60,000 mile service on my 1997 Flareside F150/5.4/2X2. I was quoted $724 for the following:
1. Lube Oil & Filter
2. Tire Balance & rotation
3. Multi-Point Inspection (99P)
4. Fuel Induction System Service
5. Cooling System Fluch
6. Transmission System Service
7. Major Power Steering System Service
8. Brake System flush
I am fairly good mechanically and have already had the tires done, as well as lube, oil, and changed the transmission fluid and fliter. I am looking through the Haynes manual to do the fuel filter and coolant flush, but not sure about the Fuel Induction, Power Steering or Brake services. I know that the fuel filter is a little tricky, and the detail on the Coolant flush calls out to remove the two block plugs just up from the oil pan for a more thorough flush, I can only see access to one. I believe the other is behind a pretty large frame brace that looks impossible to get to. Any pointers here or just go with the one plug.
I very much respect the service technicians and believe that they should do the more involved items but I feel confident that I could do some of the same work and add a little T.L.C. in the process. (I try to keep my truck showroom-worthy)
I would appreciate your thoughts on the other items on the list that I have not done yet and have no problem taking it to the "professionals" to do the rest of the list if that is best.
Thanks for the help!
Jeff
