We already have other plans but that part of the NW is somewhere we will definitely end up camping eventually.

Weight is tricky, especially with a slide model. I have a pretty light 17' aluminum boat, so not a lot of tongue weight added. Also, I won't travel with full water tanks and such when towing.

Tires are usually the most important thing to keep an eye on after you load your rig up. Weigh it at a scale (VERY IMPORTANT) to know your weight w/camper. For instance, my tires are rated at 3550 each putting me at 7100 per axle. My truck w/camper and not much else loaded in it and no boat is 6220 rear axle weight leaving me not a ton of wiggle room, but some. I am considering getting 285x75x16 tires that are rated for 3750 per tire in the near future for some more wiggle room. Some guys go with new 19.5 wheels and tires for lot's more capacity, especially heavier campers.

Having air bags helps a little, but find letting my suspension do the work makes for a better ride so I only use about 15 psi to keep me close to level and also keeping my overloads engaged. Too much air and i'm rockin and a rollin. I purchased some new upper bump stops for my rear springs that engage them a little sooner, best $50 I spent in a while.

I thought the real limit was the Gross Vehicle Weight. Aren't you over the limit on the door label? If so, do the modifications clear you of any possible liability issues? If they do, how do you go about getting that rider on the insurance?

h-d shocks,Hellwig front sway bar,Stable loads to engage overloads, if no over loads then keep under 3000lb camper, like mentioned airbags but dont lift to much weight off suspension or your sway will increase.

Like a lot people hauling campers i'm over the door sticker. The door sticker is with stock tires rated for much less and no other mods to beef up the suspension limiting that number. Spending a lot of time on RV forums the last several months, I have learned a lot and have taken several steps to add the mods for safe travel. Most import mod is upgrading the tires and adding upgraded bump stops by stable load or energy suspension to engage the overloads. Only other mod i'm thinking of adding is an aftermarket sway bar, but not sure I need it since my rig doesn't sway or move much.

Not sure about liability issues, but feel very safe and in control with my setup. I believe all other components in my suspension are rated for more than 6220 lbs or even 6800-7000 on my rear axle totally loaded including my aftermarket 8.5" wheels that are rated for well over 7k.

Here's some pics from last weekend camping on Hood Canal, WA. Sun and rain combo, got lot's of oysters and steamer clams. Pretty cool sitting in the bed of your truck with all the amenities of a camper. The wife kept saying, we're in the bed of your truck!
