Silly tires on my 51?
Hi all,
looking to get some road speed at tolerable rpm without replacing the whole rear end on the 51 f1. I know this topic has been beat to death here, but I want to use a different approach....
has anybody ever put 31-35 inch tires on their rear? tire size, gearing and rpm calculator puts me where I want to be with those sizes, but I'm wondering about physically fitting them in the fenders, and weather I will like the look. I could find some worn off road tires in that size pretty easy where I live.... and i think i'd like the jacked up rear dragster look, but I cant picture it in my head....
thanks for reading,
Ben

You could probably make a set of narrow one's fit, but I think it would look really odd (no offense), Some of the problem would be finding something narrow enough to fit inside the fender width as most tall tires tend to be wide. You could only run them on the back, I would think, as they would probably hit the front fenders when turning. That would give you quite the 70's rake to the truck with that tall of a tire on the back only.
I have some 255/85/16s on my Dodge that are 33.5" tall but only around 10" wide. I would suggest looking for a 235/85/16 at a local tire store that is worn out (in their scrap pile) and see if they will let you take it home and set it in the fender well and see what the clearance and looks are like. They are a common trailer and truck tire and should be around 32" tall.
