Loss of power

I've posted this on the OBS forum but I'd like to get opinions from my good buddies at the MO chapter as well. (You guys seem to have more know-how than most of the guys on that forum anyway)

So earlier today I finally got around to replacing my IAC which I had figured was the root of my idling issues, the issue was a rough idle before warmed up, which would last around a minute, afterwards it would run fine and had a decent amount of power, I could spin my tires if I floored it from a stand still, and had no problem getting up to highway speeds.

I replaced the IAC, and I started up my truck and the quality of the idle improved, but now it just idles high and it still has that warm up time before it settles, as I was driving home, my truck was struggling to get up to highway speeds, and after I got onto some back roads I tried to peel out and it didn't spin the tires at all.

Any ideas?

That fuel injection system is my least favorite to deal with. (next to Chevy's crossfire injection) Short of getting some hands on and looking at some sensor values, I'm not sure what to tell you. Dave has some recent experience with these, maybe he can help you out.

Thanks Alan.

I called up my buddy and told him about it and the first thing he asks is;

"Did you buy it at O'reillys?"

I did. He thinks it's just a bad new IAC, apparently O'reillys has a reputation around here of having junk electrical products.

I was going to test out whether the old IAC would return my power, but I dropped a bolt, spent LITERALLY TWO HOURS looking for it, found it on the frame right in front of the axle, put the new one back on (I want to go to bed), and learned a valuable lesson about not working on old *** trucks without a proper light source.

I spent the whole night with a maglight pinned up against my shoulder like this

Good night gentlemen.

Good call on the swap back the old IAC and see if it gets the truck back to the same condition before the new IAC swap. And I am sure you can not return elec items to O'Reilly's.

I am probably the worst guy to ask about newer rigs, heck I had to google IAC to know what that was....lol

And Walmart has great strap on headlights for hands free working in the dark and its better on your neck.

LOL Chip.

Side note: if you work in the driveway with gravel and have a tendency to drop things, get some BIG (appliance/hot water heater) pieces of card board.

Always makes for a bit easier on the ol back and way easier to locate a dropped nut, or to tell is did NOT make it off the truck....

Also do you have a magnetic retrieving tool or mechanical fingers, great addition to the TB.

Yes!

The trick is to use the hand on your opposite arm to get a hold of it.

Took me a while to figure it out.

Rich I actually had a warranty for it so I was able to return it, they didn't give me a refund they just gave me a different one and I've got that power back.

IAC isn't 100% electrical, it's basically just a valve with a thing to plug in your sensor.

While I'm in the area I think I'll clean out my throttle body as well, why the hell not.

(PS Chip, I hope you know that picture is not me)

Blowing the iac port out with carb cleaner and a brush is always a good thing.

I'm trying to take the throttle cable off, the piece of plastic it ends at at the throttle lever, I'm struggling trying to figure out how to get it off.

I've tugged on it every which way with both my hand and a tiny screw driver.

throttle trouble - Ford F150 Forum - Community of Ford Truck Fans

There's a picture on this thread which displays what I am talking about.

It's the little yellow cap on the bottom right.

I don't want to apply too much pressure and break it.

Anybody know how this thing comes off?

Hate to tell you this, but that's even old school news anymore.

I got it Rich.

Seriously most people consider my truck a dinosaur.

The automotive class at my school didn't know what the charcoal canister was one time when they were changing my oil.

On other news, got the throttle body all cleaned out and she's all back together, can spin my tires again, next thing I do will probably be gutting the cats.
