Dyed my King Ranch Seats!

Well, I finally got tired of looking at the front seats. So I bought this kit:

King Ranch leather Color

This is a before and after shot of the passenger side. Turned out great!

That came out really nice! Was that kit expensive?

Wow that looks excellent! What's the process like? Drying time? Is there any chance of transfer when sitting on it after it's first been done?

Process is very simple and easy. Only time consuming part was letting each step dry. Which, really wasn't too long. I did the front in about 3 hours. (included in that time is cleaning the rear seats also.) The rear seats, which still look good, I will do tomorrow.

As for transfer, not sure. The reports from others that have done this are good. No transfer issues. (unless of course it hasn't dried yet )

As for cost. The kit is 56.95 + shipping. No other costs involved in the process, unless you want to tape everything off. Which I didn't do. But, you really need to be careful of seat belts and such.

King Ranch leather Color

For my 04, I used the Castano color.

that came out excellent....any acid prep needed on the orignal surface....between all the leather care, armoral, etc,....I would be nervous about not stripping the old leather with tannic acid or some other leather prep chemical.

The kit comes with a cleaner. Not sure what it is exactly, but it did do a good job. Even the leather on the steering wheel, which was nearly black from sweat and what ever dirt, came off.

As for armoral, I hope nobody is using that nasty stuff on the aniline leather used in the King Ranch series.

Now, as far as using this product on Lariat style leather? Don't. This particular kit is for aniline leather.

Now, they do have kits for the other leathers found in most vehicles. I do not know how the process is with those.

Here are some more shots.

The one of the rear with the center console out shows the original color. I did not dye the leather you see in the photo around the cup holders.

If you notice the steering wheel wraps. The cleaner cleaned them up very nice. They were almost black. My rag was filthy when I got done.

Great job! It sounds like you sprayed it? I have been thinking about doing this for the wife's EXPY, but wiping it on seemed less messy.

I really like the mottled saddle look of the KR leather, which they ruined in the newer models. So I'm not sure I like this better, but it definitely looks good. Makes them look more like Lariat leather, but you will still have the benefit of the very heavy KR leather. Nice job!
